The Javanese does not like rough treatment, so he will not be a good friend to a very small child. Care

Care is very simple. Silky hair is not tangled and easy to comb. Check the condition of your ears and, if necessary, wipe them with a cotton swab moistened with a special liquid. We should also strictly follow the vaccination calendar. Cats of this breed require varied food, with the addition of fresh meat, adapted to their lifestyle and activity.

Javanese cat. History

Javanese cat is a long-haired variety of Oriental cat. It was bred by crossing Balinese cats (long-haired siamese variety) with short-haired oriental cats. The color of their coat corresponds to the color of oriental cats, while their long coat was inherited from Balinese parents.

Contrary to the name, the breed does not come from Bali, but was used in honor of the island neighboring Bali – after the Balinese cat was recognized.

The International Felinological Federation (FIFe) recognized the Javanese cat in 1988.

On January 1, 2004, FIFe renamed the Javanese cat into a long-haired Oriental cat  – several other federations of feline have used such a name.

Interesting facts

Javanese cat is also sometimes called mandarin or long-haired oriental cat. A certain problem is still obtaining uniform color of hair along its entire length in single-colored individuals – shading, stripes and meanings are undesirable. Kittens often have streaks on their fur that should fade with age. To obtain long hair, mandarins are associated with each other or combined with Oriental Shorthair, Siamese (should carry the long hair gene) or Balinese cats. Javanese cats must have green iris the more intense the color, the better.
